Scientists Talk the Accelerated Expansion of the Universe

accelerated expansion of the universe

Experts state there is no dark energy to fuel the accelerated expansion of the universe.

Scientists are currently engaged in a debate about the accelerated expansion of the universe. Previous theories claimed that the phenomenon is a real fact. However, a new study shows that there is no accelerated rhythm about the process. So new insight of the understanding of the Universe may be lying ahead.

A team of Oxford researchers has recently announced that there is proof of a constant expansion of the Universe, and not of a fast rhythm of the process. This goes against previous theories on how the Universe works. The group of scientists was headed by specialist Subir Sarkar.

Astronomers initially believed that the process of accelerated expansion of the Universe was happening. They explained that the phenomenon was fueled by the age of the Universe and that as time goes by, its growth rhythm accelerates even more. They also associated the event with the so-called dark energy.

The notion of dark energy helped researchers explain the accelerated expansion of the Universe. The matter is supposed to stand as seventy percent of the energy out there. However, what the Oxford researchers suggest is that the theory based on dark energy has some flaws.

The new study from specialists brings evidence that the Universe doesn’t rely on dark energy. As a result, its expansion is not influenced by this element. This leads scientists to believe that the Universe might be actually expanding at a normal, constant rate.

The Oxford group gathered information on the phenomenon while studying Ia supernovae. They analyzed more than seven hundred such stars and their fading phenomenon. The scientists also stressed the fact that they have a wider database than the studies which were done some decades ago.

The authors of the new study argue that the old theories were based on hypothesis, and not real facts and analyses. Their current research is based on at least ten times more analyzed material than the previous ones.

However, if there is a debate on a controversial matter, scientists will make sure it will be clarified. They intend to carry on with their study and find additional proof to back their theory. They intend to demonstrate once and for all whether the phenomenon of accelerated expansion of the Universe is real or not.

The new study from the Oxford scientists was published in the journal Scientific Reports.
