The Ohio authorities recently reported that the 10-year-old Winston baby, belonging to Amanda Mangas, the Delta woman who was fatally shot by her husband, was found after an Amber Alert was issued. The young father was taken into custody and charged with murder and kidnapping. Authorities declared that the man also kidnapped Mangas’ stepmother.
Nathan Hartsock, Delta City’s Chief of Police declared that the case of the 10-month-old missing child had been brought to a conclusion after the child’s kidnapper was apprehended. Chief Hartsock stated that the events leading to the arrest of James Ramey, the boy’s father, begun with a 911 call placed on Tuesday afternoon from Mangas’ house.
According to the authorities, the woman told the 911 dispatcher that her husband was trying to kill her. When the investigators arrived at the woman’s house, they’ve discovered 23-year-old Amanda Mangas lying in a pool of blood. The officers responding to the call declared that the woman had a severe gunshot wound to the chest and was in critical condition.
Before the officers could ask what happened, the woman looked up at them and asked about where is her son Winston. Unfortunately, shortly after the woman revealed the identity of her attacker, she became unresponsive and was declared dead several minutes later.
After learning about her son, the law enforcement officers begun to search Mangas’ home, but to no avail. The perpetrator and the child were long gone before the police arrived.
To this end, the Delta Police issued a statewide Amber Alert, hoping that someone can provide them with a tip regarding the husband’s whereabouts.
According to Hartsock, the Delta police was informed that the James Ramey, the boy’s father, made a quick stop in Fulton County, approximately 150 miles away from Delta. The officers moved in and managed to intercept Ramey.
When the officers arrested Ramey, they’ve discovered that Mangas’ stepmother was also inside the vehicle. However, according to the man’s testimony, the woman was kidnapped from her house shortly after Ramey shot Mangas and fled the house with baby Winston.
When asked about his destination, Ramey told the investigators that, fearing arrest, he tried to reach his family’s house in Illinois.
The authorities declared that this wasn’t the first time Ramey has trouble with the law. In February, the man was charged with attempted murder after threatening to kill his wife with a kitchen wife.
