On Wednesday, Andy Spade, the husband of late fashion designer Kate Spade, who was recently found dead of an apparent suicide in her Manhattan apartment, released an official statement. According to him, his wife was struggling with depression and anxiety for many years. The statement also says that she has been seeking help for her problems over the past five years. She was also regularly seeing a doctor and taking medication. Andy Spade also wanted to come clean and revealed that she had no alcohol or substance abuse problems, and that there were also no business problems.
However, he declared himself appalled that his wife’s personal note to their daughter has been shared with the media. Interestingly enough, Spade claims that he has yet to see the supposed goodbye letter from his wife. The late designer’s sister, Reta Saffo, revealed in an e-mail that Kate was struggling with bipolar disorder. She also said that she numerous times tried to help her sister but in the end this disease took its toll on her. She called what happened a very tragic and sad end for such a delightful, funny and happy person.
