It seems that Apple CEO Tim Cook has decided to learn a thing or two from Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos. This is why on Wednesday, the company teased the plans to build a new campus in the United States, among other interesting initiatives. The idea is that Apple wants to hire about 20,000 new employees over the next five years and naturally, they need a place where to work. It’s interesting that the company didn’t announce where exactly this campus is going to be. Instead, it said that further details will be announced later this year.
While this project is indeed a nice initiative, it sounds a lot like what Amazon is planning to do with the “HQ2”. For this project, Amazon asked cities in the United States to place bids for where the company should build the new $5 billion headquarters. Amazon is planning to hire about 50,000 people to work in he new headquarters. But one thing was different. Amazon asked for bids from about 50 cities. Meanwhile, Apple didn’t even reveal a possible location and didn’t say anything about bids.
Apple’s new initiative to hire people
It’s no secret that Apple usually receives tax breaks in exchange of jobs for people. So, it is possible that the company is currently negotiating this special tax status, even if it doesn’t do it so publicly, like Amazon did.
Also, when Amazon announced the new headquarters, it also said that it is going to be the equal to the original Seattle campus. Apple did not say this. Considering that the new campus is not a new headquarters, it may not be an equal to those in Cupertino, California.
Also, the company won’t make this campus for high-skilled programming jobs. New iPhones are most likely not going to be built in this new campus. Still, these jobs will surely help a lot of people and will help Apple at the same time.
