How much do we allow artificial intelligence to be part of our life?
Creating artificial intelligence was one of the scientists’ goals. It is a remarkable achievement, but is it a blessing or a curse? Researchers are not sure how to deal with the situation now, and specialists say that robots may take over our lives. However, this is not a pre-apocalyptic threat.
Important companies in the technological field have recently had a meeting, where they discussed the pros and cons of artificial intelligence. Another related subject was the extent to which such machines should be created. They were also concerned about the interaction between robots and humans.
There were five big companies attending this meeting: Microsoft, Facebook, Alphabet, Amazon, and IBM. They are aware that devices such as self-driving cars, automatic guns and other kinds of robots come with both advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand, they can make people’s lives easier by performing all sorts of activities for them, but, on the other hand, there are also negative effects.
So many types of robots being created, displaying an array of functions can actually threaten people’s jobs. If there are machines to do the work for the, why would employers hire people and pay them wages? This is a case when artificial intelligence works against humanity.
Scientists and developers were all excited when they succeeded in designing self-driving cars. This accomplishment can also backfire, as the vehicles stand as a threat to human drivers on the highways.
Tech companies are also aware that they can’t prevent science from advancing. What they want is to make sure that creating artificial intelligence is actually beneficial for people. They also intend to find means of reducing potential adverse effects.
Specialists came up with a first proposal. They think about investigating and obtaining reports of the effects of artificial intelligence on the society. The reports will be delivered every five years. This project will last for the next one hundred years. Experts hope this measure will turn out to be efficient. As soon as they get information of robots affecting people’s lives, they will be able to intervene immediately and keep a balance in society.
A report on the changes that smart robots might bring to our society was already written. It only contains predictions and it is called “Artificial Intelligence and Life in 2030.” It involves domains such as the educational system, health care, transportation, and many others.
