An infant from the United States died only a few days after being born. The tragic event, which changed the life of Jillian, the infant’s mother, happened back in February 2012. At that time, the coroner’s report read that the baby died of severe dehydration. His mother admitted feeding him only with breastmilk.
Although five long years have passed since Jillian, a woman from the United States, lost her baby, she somehow built up the courage to talk about her traumatic experience in an attempt to educate young mothers on the hidden dangers of relying solely on breastfeeding.
Jillian recalls that her baby boy, whom she named Landon, was born on the 24th of February 2012. The doctors told the young mother that the baby was in perfect health. However, three more days would have had to pass for Jillian and Landon to return home.
Although it’s still very painful to talk about the pain of losing her only child, during the interview the woman tried to recall every small detail about Landon’s condition. Jillian said that on the third day, she and Landon were given a green bill of health by the doctors and were sent home.
Upon returning home, Jillian’s nightmare began to take shape. The woman recalls that despite her feeding his breast milk at regular intervals, the infant continued to cry. Jillian began alarmed by the fact that the boy did not sleep, nor soiled his diapers.
With tears in her eyes, the mother told the reporters that her baby was constantly crying no matter what she did. Acting upon the doctor’s recommendation, the woman decided that the best way to boost young Landon’s immune system is to feed him with breastmilk.
However, Jillian did not take into account that the doctors previously diagnosed her with a condition called polycystic ovarian syndrome. This condition creates an imbalance between progesterone and estrogen levels, thus hindering lactation.
Basically, due to her condition, Jillian was unable to nourish young Landon. Unfortunately, a few days after bringing her son home, the boy went into cardiac arrest due to dehydration and losing approximately 10 percent of his body mass.
After rushing the infant to the hospital, the doctor’s managed to resuscitate him. However, the brain damage due to the lack of oxygen was too extensive, and Landon died a few days later after his parents decided to take him off life support.
