Second Day Warehouse Fire Still Fought by Firefighters

Since Saturday, Firefighters continue to put out the warehouse fire in Brooklyn but the top fire official of the city says that it would take more days to declare it fire out.

Smoke fluttered out the warehouse from Saturday until Sunday and the efforts made by firefighters were hampered initially by high winds and low temperatures. Fueling the fire more are paper records stored within the warehouse. These were mostly health care records along with fire and wind made it difficult for firefighters to assure the flames did not impact the nearby structures. There was only one reported civilian injury from this incident.

Sarah Van Orman, executive director of University Health Services at the University of Wisconsin at Madison and president of American College Health Association, says that this signals high alert to members and has now become an absolute concern for campuses. In addition, Van Orman recommends reviewing the student immunization status and updating their communicable disease emergency response plans specifically with measles.

Overwhelming Duties Await the Next Defense Secretary

The future of U.S. defenses comes from its next defense secretary, Ashton Carter. Aside from the issues in his home country, he also faces huge unforeseen crises abroad that can explode without a warning.

According to Chuck Hagel, the future former secretary of defense, his job was not as easy as he thought it was. Hagel did not think that the deadly Ebola would require deployment of U.S. troops in West Africa or in Iraq. A current issue in Iraq calls for Carter’s decision in the coming months which is to decide to help Iraq in its counteroffensive pursuit for regaining lost territory of northern Mosul city.

According to the Chimerix, the drug developer, they will no longer participate in this clinical trial. Chief Executive Dr. Michelle Berrey of Chimerix states less patients were not making any conclusions with their study. Furthermore, the company shipped 140 drugs initially to Liberia and lesser than 10 were seen to have good prognosis. Moreover, the World Health Organization reported last week that the number of new Ebola cases decreased to a hundred in the most affected countries in Africa.
