Earlier on Wednesday, Dell Chromebook announced the launch of three new devices which are specifically targeted for an educational use at school.
Dell’s announcement came just a day after Acer and Asus’s. Both manufacturers revealed on Tuesday that they will be releasing new Chromebooks. Both the new devices will be 11-inch, convertible Chromebook variants. And all the announcements come as Google decided to advance its position in the education market.
The Internet giant’s Chrome OS is quite strong in the area. Some estimates show that almost half of the educational tools use Chrome OS-based devices.
And the Dell Chromebook new variants will come to complete the slew of new additions. Dell revealed three new devices. Two of the Chromebooks will be 11-inch devices. The third product will be a 13-inch option.
Dell Chromebook 11 Convertible is perhaps the most interesting of the bunch. An alternative to the usual 11 mode, the Convertible will also work with a stylus.
Its special property is made quite clearly known from the name. The laptop will be convertible. As such, it can be flipped around and used according to the user’s needs. It can be utilized either as a laptop or tablet.
What will be perhaps even more interesting is its stylus feature. The Dell Chromebook 11 Convertible will be compatible with the Dell Productivity Active Pen. This device can also be specially configured. It can come to include a camera, that can be built into its keyboard. This camera will be especially meant for use when in tablet mode.
As the device will be adapted for schools, it will lack some features. But will also come with others. For example, it will have a “rubberized trim”. This should make it more resistant to shocks. At the same time, it will be protected against possible spills. Its trackpad and keyboard should be “fully sealed”.
Chromebook 11 will run on an Intel Celeron processor. But it will be a generation-old. A model running Windows 10 will also be available. This latter will also have a newer processor. And it will come with another name. It will be titled the Latitude 11 Convertible.
Dell Chromebook 11 will have similar features. But it will quite evidently lack the convertible mode. The Chromebook 11 and 13 are variants of already existing laptops.
The respective Windows devices are known as Latitude 11 and 13. These new Chrome OS incarnations will have slightly older processors. However, they will also be sold at a lower price.
All the new Dell Chromebook devices will be available starting with February. The 7th of February, to be more exact. The Latitude 11 Convertible will be launched on the same day. Its Windows model version will cost $579. The Chrome OS one will come with a $349 price tag.
The Dell Chromebook 11 will cost $219. Chromebook 13 will be $299. A Latitude 13 will also be introduced. It will be priced at $519.
As characterizes the Chrome OS devices, they should be quite durable. And also come at a lower price. The laptops should be quite easy to use, as they should ensure an ease of access in the classroom.
It remains to be seen how these devices will fare outside of schools. Google is currently trying to convince users of the Chromebooks’ utility, in general.
