Detroit law enforcement authorities reported that the individual who shot two police officers was arrested.

Detroit law enforcement authorities recently declared that the individual who shot two police officers on Wednesday night had been taken into custody. The suspect is a 60-year-old male who lives in the shady area of the city. Detroit PD said that the cops who were caught in the fire exchange were ordered to comb the area for drug dealers. Both cops have been taken to the hospital and are in stable condition. The suspect was wounded in the leg during the firefight.

James Craig, the Detroit Chief of Police, declared during a press statement that the individual who shot two police officer while on duty on Wednesday night has recently been taken into custody. Craig also mentioned that the two officer were patrolling the area that night as part of a larger police operation to monitor drug trafficking.

Moreover, since the murder of 29-year-old Collin Rose in November, Detroit’s Police Department thought it best to increase police presence in that area. According to Craig’s statement, on Wednesday night, the two police officers were conducting the area when they saw a suspicious individual.

Detroit’s Chief of Police said that the individual seemed fidgety as if he was deliberately trying to hide something. Thinking that he might be a drug dealer, the two police officer exited their vehicle and went to confront him.

Seeing the officers approaching, the suspect, a 60-year-old male living in that neighborhood, drew out the gun he was concealing and opened fire on the two police officers. The two officers were wounded by the man’s bullets before they were able to return fire.

According to Chief Craig, one of the officers was hit in the neck by a stray bullet, while his partner received two bullets in the chest area and one in the leg. Luckily, both of them were wearing body armor during the patrol which partially stopped the bullets.

The two officers were taken to a local hospital, where the surgeons managed to remove the bullets. Both of them survived the ordeal, and are now recuperating. Learning about the shooting, Detroit’s PD begun a city-wide search for the cop shooter.

After scouring the area, the authorities managed to apprehend the individual on Wednesday. Detroit’s Chief of Police declared that the individual was limping when he was arrested and was rushed to the hospital. The doctors said that the man had a bullet wound to his leg, most likely sustained during the early fire exchange.
