Women using color filters and beautifing effects on their profile pictures are not trustworthy and men consider that in relaity they dont actually look good.
Profile pictures are the first thing someone sees on our social media platform or dating sites and are the main point that attracts potential partners for dating.Study has shown that men consider attractiveness more important than trust when it comes to selecting a potential partner.
The reason might be related to the fact that men expect for a certain woman not to look as good in real life as she does in pictures, explains study.
Experts from the University of Connecticut discovered that enhanced profile pictures of women are not working in their favor at all, when it comes to meeting men as they might be considered attractive due to the filter.
In order to determine this, scientists observed 305 persons with ages between 17 and 36 years old. All of them were given to answer various questions to find out if they would find attractive certain profile pictures, if they would find that person trustworthy and if they would eventually go on a date with that person.
The pictures they were shown included enhanced pictures with color filters or images in which the lighting was friendly and pictures in which women appeared to have a natural, make up free look, in a favorable light.
Their findings showed an interesting connection between attractiveness and trust expressed by the individuals who were analyzing the women’s profile pictures.
Men believed that women who look incredible in pictures might not look as good in real life which lead them to think that they are less trustworthy. Based on the results, even if men would look at the picture and think that woman might not look just like in the image, they would still assume the risk of dating her.
The research discovered that men found enhanced profile pictures very attractive and their desire of dating those women was greater even if they stated that the trust level transmitted by the women was low, explained the authors of the study.
Trust is the base of any relationship and as well trust has an important role in developing social connections.
What was even more interesting, was to discover that when it comes to women the response was opposite as women looked at enhanced profile pictures of men in a complete different manner. Women considered that men with enhanced pictures were more attractive and trustworthy than those who had regular untouched pictures.
Moreover, many of male participants in the study, considered that many of the enhanced profile pictures on dating sites or media platforms may be fake profiles that were specially retouched to attract visitors.
Researchers will further present their findings during the conference at the International Communication Association.
