The huge pearl must have been found in a giant shell like this one
To all girls dreaming they will become princesses one day and to all lads that see themselves as some sort of bounty hunters, there has recently been revealed an object which might be of your interest. What is it, you ask? Well, no more and no less than a huge pearl, weighing 75 pounds (34 kilograms).
This treasure was pulled out and stolen from the ocean by a fisherman in the Philippines and after getting it out of the sea, he hid the treasure once more. The huge pearl has not been revealed until now, although it was found about ten years ago, in 2006. The fisherman kept it under his bed, as a lucky charm, without acknowledging its actual value. For him, it only had a spiritual value, as he would touch it whenever he went fishing.
Specialists think that the huge pearl might be worth $100 million, according to The Guardian.
The lucky fisherman, whose name was not revealed to the press, found the huge pearl by accident, ten years ago when the anchor of his boat hit a giant clam. He lives in the city of Puerto Princesa, on Palawan Island. Only when he was about to move, did he show the pearl to someone else, namely to his aunt, Aileen Cynthia Maggay-Amurao. It is she who spread the word about the ocean piece of jewelry and asked for permission to display it as a local attraction for tourists.
Measurements revealed that the pearl weights 75 pounds, which is 34 kilograms, it is 67cm long and 30cm wide. It seems to be the biggest natural pearl in the world, but it still needs to be authenticated. So far, the largest pearl ever found weighs 14 pounds, and, as such, had been declared the record holder. The pearl that the Philippine fisherman found may thus become the new record for the biggest natural pearl.
Aileen Cynthia Maggay-Amurao is currently looking for experts (gemologists)that should prove the authenticity of the gem and state its worth. She asked for their help on the social media platforms (through a post on Facebook). She told The Guardian she had been investigating herself and all her searches led her to believe that there was no other pearl that could compare to the one they had:
“So far based on our research in the web we cannot find any recorded article about this kind and as big as this size.”
Maggay-Amurao is aware of how important this discovery is for both the scientific community and for their city.
