Las Vegas authorities said that the individual killed one individual and wounded another during the Strip bus shooting might be mentally deranged.
According to the Las Vegas authorities, the individual who opened fire on a bus which made a stop at the Vegas Strip and killed one person might have some mental issues. Authorities said that they could offer no explanation for why 55-year-old Rolando Cardenas decided to draw out his gun and open fire on the passengers. The suspect was apprehended after a four-hour standoff after he surrendered peacefully.
On the 27th of March, a double-decker tourist bus was making a stop at the Strip, a stop located near the Cosmopolitan, a luxurious hotel, and casino. As soon as the driver opened the door to drop off the passengers, 55-year-old Rolando Cardenas drew out his handgun and opened fire on 57-year-old Gary Breitling of Montana, who was just getting ready to descend the bus’s stairs.
According to the Las Vegas authorities, Breitling was shortly rushed to the hospital, where he died several hours later due to his injuries. During Cardenas’s brutal display of force, another person was shot in the stomach. However, the doctors said that the patient was stabilized and is expected to survive.
A police report issued shortly after the gun-toting individual was arrested reveals that both Breitling and the unknown individual who was shot in the stomach were seated right next to Cardenas.
Fortunately, the other passengers managed to escape the Las Vegas terror bus before the Cardenas could hurt them. Now, according to the authorities, it would appear that the individual barricaded himself inside the double-decker, waiting for the police to arrive.
Several minutes later, a heavily-armed police squad surrounded the bus and brought along a robotic drone in order to assess the situation. A Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson declared that after the officers surround the bus, others were dispatched to the neighboring buildings in order to tell the people to stay put until the situation is contained.
The standoff lasted at least 4 hours. During the negotiation process, Cardenas fired a couple of rounds towards the police officers surrounding the bus. However, the police did not open fire. Later, the man decided to lay down his arms and to surrender.
One of the officers involved in the four-hour standoff declared that Cardenas might have some mental issue. Furthermore, it would appear that the Las Vegas shooting has no discernable reason. Cardenas has been taken into custody and held without a bond.
