Mother Discovers Toddler Has Cancer With Her Smartphone

Avery-Fitzgerald

She found out her child had a rare form of cancer with the help of her phone. A mother from Illinois saved the life of her two year old boy with the help of a picture she took with from her smartphone.

Julie Fitzgerald noticed two months ago that there was something different with her toddler. There were moments when she would look at her child in a certain light and would notice that he had something inside his eyes. But she couldn’t manage to understand what exactly was in there.

Wanting to find out what is wrong with her son, the mother started looking for answers on line.
While she was browsing for answers, the woman, found a case in which a person was telling how she saw a white eye in the image of a family member, instead of seeing a red eye. Eventually, they discovered that person had cancer.

After reading the information from the internet, she became extremely worried and told her husband about it. It appears that he tried to calm her down by telling her that she might be worrying for nothing.

Even so, the mother couldn’t find peace and she decided to take the matter into her own hands as she believed her two year old may be sick. She took her phone and took a picture of her baby.

At first she was very afraid to take the picture as she had a weird feeling about it. When she finally did it, her fears had been confirmed. The entire pupil of the boy was white, and that’s when she knew he had problems.

Fitzgerald grabbed her son and took him to see a doctor who gave her the tragic news. After one look, the doctor noticed that the eye of the child was filled with several tumors and was told that her toddler had a rare form of cancer, called retinoblastoma.

The only way of saving him, would be to remove his entire eye. Fitzgerald’s timing was right at the limit, as doctors told her that if more time had passed by, the tumor could have spread to his brain and into the blood system.

The little boy went through surgery and the cancer has been removed. In the future, the little boy might get to wear a prosthetic eye.For the moment he will be further tested to see if his genes are prone to developing more cancer.

The family of the boy was informed that most likely their son had been blind withhis left eye his entire life, even though the cancer has started developing only for the last month and a half.

Fitzgerald’s advice for all the parents out there, is to trust their instinct and if they feel something is wrong with their child they should take him/her to the doctor right away and don’t wait to see it the condition improves or not.
