Windows Insider 14965 will have a virtual touchpad function.
Microsoft announced that the news Windows Insider build 14965 will feature a virtual touchpad, specifically designed to help tablet owners.
Although it’s still far from reaching home computers, it would seem that the 14965 build for Windows Insider has some very promising aspects. Apart from fixing some minor freeze issues, the new windows build will feature a touchpad which will appear on the bottom right part of your tablet when you connect it to an external display.
As the company explains, setting up the virtual touchpad function is fairly easy. When a Windows-ready portable device such as the Surface Pro 4 is connected to an external monitor, users can easily access the virtual touchpad function.
If this function makes it to the final build, then here’s how you can transform your tablet into a powerful tracking tool. First of all, you will need to extend your primary display to the secondary monitor.
Connect the second monitor to your tablet, and from the Action Center, select or rather tap on the Project Quick tile. Your working desktop will be quickly extended to the secondary display.
After completing this step, you’ll need to long-press on the taskbar for a couple of seconds. From the drop menu that appears, select Show touchpad button. This will activate the touchpad function in your action center.
Open the Action Center menu by tapping on its symbol and then tap on the virtual touchpad icon. A blank area will appear in the bottom right corner of your tablet’s screen. Use this to control the cursor with greater precision.
Even better, you can adjust the touchpad’s sensitivity. Just navigate to the touchpad tab in your settings section and use the bar to make the touchpad more sensible or less sensible.
There’s not much to tell about the new Windows build, expect maybe the fact that it will not be released this year. Furthermore, as Microsoft announced the 14965 build is a Creator’s Update, which means that home users will have to wait a while longer before installing it on their computer/devices.
Sources from inside the company have declared that Insider build 14965 will be probably launched at the beginning of 2017. Whether the virtual touchpad will be included in the final release remains to be seen, but we cannot deny that the perspective is enticing.
