Relay for Life continues in July.
Fallon County’s annual Relay for Life event will take place at Roger Schmidt Amphitheater, south end of the Baker Lake this July 15th.
This community initiative consists of an annual event that supports the American Cancer Society (ACS) with funds collected from every participant. There are more than 5,000 communities across the country which include around four million people who participate in the Relay to bring their contribution to improving the life quality of caretakers and cancer fighters.
Also, a significant part of the funds will go to the American Cancer Society to support the efforts of researchers who are continuously trying to find a better strategy to deal with this disease that affects every year many American citizens.
Residents should wear purple clothing during the event as the purple color represents the universal color of any type of cancer. The event will start at 6 p.m. and will end at midnight.
However, the Survivor’s Supper will begin one hour earlier. Anyone who has a cancer history is considered a cancer survivor even if that person is still fighting the disease. Every Relay team is advised to go to the registration tent until the beginning of the event.
The Opening Ceremony will start at seven p.m. with a speech held by Broke Marcus, a six-year leukemia survivor and a 20-year-old student from the University of Wyoming.
The participants in the Relay come here to honor the ones who passed away, support cancer fighters and celebrate cancer survivors. That is why this event is a source of inspiration for every participant.
A special Luminaries Ceremony will take place at sunset when luminaria candles are lit in the honor of those who lost the fight. Regarding other activities, this Relay for Life will have many recreational programs such as food, music, games, and sports.
A Frozen T-shirt Contest will be organized at 10:15 p.m. and it will also have a prize. The event will be closed at midnight by the Last Lap where participants will light sparklers as a symbol of the Relay.
Seven teams have registered to raise funds and awareness regarding cancer in this year’s Fallon County’s Relay for Life. All people who want to support the teams’ efforts and bring their contribution to this initiative are invited to donate how much they want to this noble cause.
