If you want to laugh a bit, check the Peter Molyneux parody Twitter account, Peter Molydeux.
The news that the famed game developer was finally going to let down his mantle and tear himself from the games’ industry was false because, according to the man himself, Peter Molyneux’s retirement announcement was made by hackers. This retirement claim was also dismissed by Molyneux’s studio, 22Cans, led by a new CEO, with Peter focusing more on game development.
If you do not know how Peter Molyneux is, he is the man behind cult classics like Dungeon Keeper, Populous, and Fable. Even if almost all of the games created by him in the past were amazing, or at least, the first installments in the franchise, Molyneux has gained a hefty amount of infamy due to events from past years.
Godus, a game meant to be a direct successor to Populous came somewhat unfinished and unenticing for a majority of players while Fable3 is considered to be one of the worst RPGs in history. This title is not entirely made because the game is broken or unplayable, it was simply an incredibly poor installment in the franchise, with easy combat, lackluster story, poor gameplay mechanics and so on.
One of the tweets released by hackers approached the idea of Fable 3 as well, with the false Peter Molyneux claiming that this game was his biggest mistake in his 30 years in the industry. Once this tweet surfaced, it was clear to most people who were carefully observing the real Peter Molyneux that the tweets came from someone else, because the real Molyneux would never make such claims, even if the game he created was basically tic-tac-toe.
The claim that the Godus game would be pulled from the Steam store was dismissed as well. The game will still be updated regularly, with it still being in Steam’s Early Access program. In regards to Peter’s retirement, he has stated that he will continue to develop games until age will make him physically unable. Even if this claim might seem somewhat quirky at first glance, if one would take into account how Molyneux usually talks with the general public, it is not entirely surprising.
Bearing in mind that Peter Molyneux’s retirement announcement was made by hackers, the developer is still hoped by many to push the games’ industry further and further through new innovations in the market. Only time will tell what Peter Molyneux will pull out of his magic hat in the near future.
