Far Cry Primal Gets a New Trailer Showing Characters and Story Elements

January 24, 2016 By Amanda Lane 2 Comments

"far cry primal"

It will be interesting to see how yet another open-world game fares in the current over-saturated market.

With the game being scheduled to release on the 23rd of February for Xbox One and PS4, PC getting it on the 1st of March, Far Cry Primal gets a new trailer showing characters and story elements. Nonetheless, even amidst all the hype surrounding the stone-age FPS game, some gamers are still somewhat skeptical in regards to the game’s gameplay elements and story.

Far Cry Primal does seem to tear itself apart from previous installments in the franchise by a rather significant margin. This new game is almost completely different to Far Cry 3 and 4, considering that Far Cry 4 was more or less a reskin of Far Cry 3. But by doing this, the new game seems to lack an interesting antagonist.

The story still puts you in charge of a group of people with the goal of protecting them and ensuring their triumph over their enemies. This is similar to how Far Cry 3 did with the Rakyat and Far Cry 4 did with the Golden Path. Things are still more or less the same.

Players were able to play FC 3 and 4 extensively because of their main antagonists, Vaas and Pagan Min. But due to the fact that this new game is set in the stone age, some people are wondering how you can create a compelling main bad guy if he is basically a neanderthal. Hopefully, by removing the emphasis from the antagonist and putting it on the main character that you play as, you will actually be placed in the shoes of an interesting and complex character.

That would be a breath of fresh air, if one would take into account that Ajai Ghale from FC 4 was nothing more than a cardboard cut-out or a pair of pants that the player wore in order to experience the beauty of Kyrat. In FC 3 on the other hand, Jason Brody actually had a character arc, transforming from a rich kid into a homicidal maniac with severe mental disorders, unsurprisingly so, given the fact that over the course of the game you kill thousands of people.

Another issue that might rear its ugly head in Far Cry Primal might be in the form of its gameplay. The current gaming market has started to become over saturated with open world games. The effects of this phenomenon could have been easily spotted when looking at Just Cause 3, an incredible game held back by the fact that it was an open-world one in the midst of tens of other similar games.

Even if Far Cry Primal gets a new trailer showing characters and story elements, it will be interesting to see if replacing normal weapons like guns and rocket launchers with clubs, bows and animals will entice gamers enough to invest hours upon hours into the game. Another interesting question revolves around how Ubisoft will manage to put yet another radio tower element into its game, just like Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, Watch Dogs and basically almost every game that came out of that studio.

Plants Vs Zombies Garden Warfare 2 Is Better In Every Way

"garden warfare 2"

If you want to play a colorful 3rd person shooter, but you don’t have a Wii U for Splatoon, Garden Warfare 2 will hit every console and PC on the 23rd of February.

It’s safe to say that no one expected Popcap to release such a polished third-person shooter last year, with the original Garden Warfare getting some rather positive marks from game critics and shooter fans as well. After the beta of the sequel was on last weekend, it seems that Plants Vs Zombies Garden Warfare 2 is better in every way in comparison to its predecessor.

The main problem that plagued the first game was its menu system. Once you lined-up in a matchmaking queue, you were simply left staring at the screen until a match started. True, you could fiddle with some loadout options or open some sticker packs, but everything felt somewhat static and unexciting.

This problem was completely solved in the sequel, with players entering a sort of hub world split into three parts, plants, zombies, and no-man’s-land. In every zone, you can access every loadout, test them out, buy some stickers, play and fool around, whatever you may wish. This type of playable “loading screen” is similar to Assassin’s Creed’s approach, even though in that case it was more like a purgatory simulator, with the main character running infinitely towards the horizon.

In terms of gameplay, Garden Warfare 2 is still fairly similar to its predecessor, with the addition of 6 characters to the original roster. Gun-play, if you can call shooting peas or footballs gunplay, has remained the same as before, but fun levels increase exponentially if you get into a full 12 vs 12 match. Game modes are still fairly generic, with team deathmatch, kill confirmed, search and destroy, and domination. But there is a slight chance that more will be added over the course of 2016.

Fortunately, the sequel allows for all game modes to be played offline, in couch-coop or other similar methods. Split-screen was not available during the beta, but gamers hope that this option will be added after the game’s release in February. If you’re not really looking forward to 11-year-olds screaming constantly in your headset, given the fact that this game is mainly marketed towards kids, you can turn-off in-game chat completely.

Taking into account how Plants Vs Zombies Garden Warfare 2 is better in every way, it seems that Popcap actually knows what it’s doing in terms of third-person multiplayer shooters. This is rather surprising, bearing in mind the fact that the main Plants Vs Zombies game is a 2D tower defense game.
