The game looks stunning, using all of the services provided by Unreal 4 to an amazing extent.
Judging by Konami’s behavior from 2015, it seems that even if the Metal Gear Solid Fan-made HD remake gets a trailer, fans will be unable to relive their past 1998 experience in Unreal Engine 4. The creator of the remake, Airam Hernandez, clarified in the video’s description that he has no affiliation to Konami what-so-ever, furthermore proving that his pet project, called Shadow Moses, will more than likely never hit store shelves.
When Metal Gear Solid first came out in 1998 it completely revolutionized the gaming industry in terms of graphics, story-telling, gameplay mechanics, you name it. It’s safe to say that once you played the game as a kid, it more than likely blew your mind wide open, most likely due to the fact that the story was as mind boggling as it is today.
Comments on the trailer’s YouTube page were disabled because almost all of them were related to Cease and Desist questions and stipulations. True, even if this wasn’t Konami we were talking about, the fan-made remake would still have faced issues, mainly due to the fact that the project is completely unofficial, with no link to the owner of the game at all.
In addition to this, Konami is a Japanese company. Nintendo, Capcom, Sega, almost every Japanese company has some rather weird ideas when it comes to YouTube videos containing their games. Several channels have already been shut down by Sega after they included seconds from one of their games in their videos, even if the games in question have been off the market for over 10 years.
Because Konami still has the rights to the Metal Gear franchise, even if its creator, Hideo Kojima, has left the company to join Sony after the fiasco of last year, the Shadow Moses game will more than likely never see the light of day. At least, not on any official site or on any game selling platform such as Steam.
But Airam Hernandez’s talent may be spotted by Kojima himself or various gaming companies, offering him a job in the process. It is also worth noting that the project is completely open, in order to circumvent the idea that after years of hard work, Konami can just swoop in and destroy everything the team had built up to that point.
There is still a small chance, extremely small, that the Japanese game company will see how the Metal Gear Solid Fan-made HD remake gets a trailer and release the rights to the Metal Gear franchise to Kojima. Although that can be placed in the realm of fiction, bearing in mind how Konami has fared in the past year, fans of Solid Snake can still have hope.
