Hopefully, Platinum will have enough time until 2017 to make Scalebound as perfect as it can possibly be.
Even if the game was announced back when Xbox One was first hitting store shelves worldwide, Scalebound gets pushed to 2017. This announcement comes from Microsoft’s marketing manager, Aaron Greenberg and comes in tow with some pretty interesting statistics from EA’s CFO Blake Jorgensen in regards to console sales between Xbox One and PS4.
Scalebound is a 3rd person action RPG developed by famed studio Platinum who up to this point has released good games one after another. Even licensed games created by Platinum have been critically acclaimed, except the Legend of Korra one, which is something rather unusual, given the fact that most movie licensed games are poor, to say the least.
The reason why this delay was decided upon is basically the goal of making Scalebound an extensively polished game. Greenberg has also stated that Xbox will not suffer from this push at all because the console has one of the best game line-ups planned for 2016. True, this statement can be somewhat criticized, depending on your gaming preferences. Quantum Break, Killer Instinct Season 3, Sea of Thieves, Below, Crackdown 3, Gear of War 4 and Inside are all console or timed exclusive that are planned to release this year if no delays surface along the way.
In regards to lifetime sale numbers between the two consoles, PS4 has beaten Xbox extensively, selling almost 2 consoles for each Microsoft one, if you would believe EA’s statistics. This might give a reason as to why Microsoft has been somewhat evasive when it came to releasing console sale numbers while PS4 has been waving its numbers around for all to see.
Even so, Greenberg has once again stated that this so-called console war between the two companies is not carried out with any degree of hate between the two parties. Most of the companies’ executives are actually friends. There is just a spirit of competition between Sony and Microsoft, a spirit that pushes each company individually, forcing them to outdo one another constantly, or at least, attempt to.
This is completely different if one would look at the constantly feuding PS4 and Xbox One fans which wage wars on internet posts and Reddit threads on a daily basis. But this war is likely waged because consumers need to feel that they made the right choice when they decided to purchase one console instead of the other. Xbox’s Phil Spencer has even stated that these types of egregious comments that make fun of people who will not be able to play a game, due to it being console exclusive, are very distasteful.
Either way, the fact that Scalebound gets pushed to 2017 will not help Xbox in the friendly competition it has with Sony. Even if the console is backwards compatible with Xbox 360, it seems that PS4 will still have the lead due to its technical prowess given by the fact that the console’s hardware is better in almost every way when compared to Xbox One.
