Microsoft Creates the Alarm Clock From Hell

January 22, 2016 By John Cooper Leave a Comment

"alarm clock"

Wake up and start your day or suffer the consequences.

If you have trouble waking up even when you use an alarm to wake you, do not worry, because Microsoft creates the alarm clock from hell that will order you to solve challenges in order to turn it off. Similar apps have already been on the market up to this point, but the Microsoft Mimicker Alarm has some rather tricky tasks for you to complete if you want to spare yourself from the incessant alarm sounds spewing from your phone at deafening levels.

The challenges of the Mimicker Alarm are three in number. You will be tasked with making weird faces at your phone, taking a photo of a certain colored object from your home or reciting a tongue twister as fast as possible. If you fail to do that in 30 seconds, the alarm will start blaring once again. True, the app does have a snooze button, but it will only last for a couple of minutes, dismissing your attempt to fall asleep once again.

This software was developed in Microsoft’s Garage program. Here, engineers and developers can build whatever software they want, with the chance of it being commercialized if it proves its profitability and viability. But the program is not limited to software, with hardware being under the radar as well, even though that side is much more limited in comparison to software development.

The Mimicker Alarm is based on Project Oxford, a machine-learning program that can recognize colors, speech, and facial expressions. It is the same program used in prior Microsoft facial recognition apps and it is currently open source, being available for free on GitHub. By doing this, the company hopes to entice more developers to fiddle with the app’s software in order to create more and more interesting concepts and viable programs.

If you still have trouble getting up from bed even while using this program, strap your smartphone to the Flying Alarm Clock or the Elufy Alarm Clock that force you to get out of bed and chase the clock around the room in order to stop it from constantly screaming at you to wake up. If even that doesn’t force you to wake up, I seriously do not know what will.

Hopefully, following the announcement that Microsoft creates the alarm clock from hell, you will be able to wake up at a much faster rate than normal. But it is worth noting that by using this application, you will not effectively become a morning person. You will probably get so infuriated from the constant alarm sounds that you will toss your phone across the room, so the use of a hard phone case is advised.
