Mortal Kombat XL Won’t Be Coming To PC

January 21, 2016 By Amanda Lane Leave a Comment

"mortal kombat x"

WB continues to maintain its recent trend of not caring for the PC platform at all.

According to NetherRealms’ Tyler Lansdown, Mortal Kombat XL won’t be coming to PC, being scheduled to release only for Xbox One and PS4 on the 1st of March. The game’s Season 2 Pass will suffer the same fate, to the dismay of ever MK fan that opted to play the game on PC.

The main game was pretty well-received on all platforms, even if on PC it suffered from some serious problems when it first launched. But this has started to be more or less a trend for major AAA game developers and publishers, with Warner Brothers’ fiasco regarding Batman Arkham Knight still being somewhat of a problem on PC even today, a couple of months after the game has launched.

But Mortal Kombat X was actually playable, in comparison to the last installment in the Arkham series. One of the only major problems that the game had revolved around its online server stability and matchmaking. The developer of the game even has released a so-called “enhanced online beta” for the game in order to improve server stability and reduce lag as much as possible, only for PS4 and Xbox One.

It is worth noting that it seems the term “beta” no longer has any meaning for major gaming companies because you cannot release a beta for the game after the game has actually launched with version 1.0.

According to the general consensus, the reason why NetherRealms and WB elected to ignore the PC platform is based on lower than average sales. This comes in addition to the companies’ somewhat lack of interest when it comes to PC quality assurance or support.

The Mortal Kombat XL game is simply put the game’s Game Of The Year version. It will include the main game alongside all of the DLC skins and characters added in season 1 and scheduled to release in season 2. Of course, once the news that PC users will not be able to benefit from MK XL or the second Kombat Pack that includes new characters, like an Aliens Xenomorph, a major backlash appeared on Steam forums and Reddit.

This is not entirely surprising, given the fact that, according to some parties, a major AAA game company should not just release a game on a platform and then cut any type of support, especially if the game has a pretty large multiplayer scene on said platform. This is the second instance, in recent memory, where WB simply kicked PC users away, with the first one being Arkham Knight.

It is rather unfortunate the fact that Mortal Kombat XL won’t be coming to PC. This decision will more than likely affect PC users’ decision to buy another game from NetherRealms or WB for PC in the near future if the two companies will continue their trend of entirely disregarding this platform’s support.
