Mighty No. 9 Gets Delayed Once Again

January 26, 2016 By John Cooper Leave a Comment

Hopefully, these delays will mean that the final product will be extensively polished.

The spiritual successor of the Mega Man franchise, being developed after one of the most successful Kickstarter campaigns, will make 2D action platformer fans wait for just a couple of months because Mighty No. 9 gets delayed once again. This announcement was released by the developer of the game, Comcept.

The reason for this delay is based on the game’s networking problems regarding its online modes. The main online issue stems from matchmaking, according to Keiji Inafune. But that’s not the only problem, unfortunately.

Due to the fact that the game’s engine is no longer being updated, the various bug fixes will have to be made for each specific console individually. This effectively pushes back the release of Mighty No. 9 after the spring of 2016. The game was initially scheduled for a spring 2015 release, following a delay until mid-September.

After that, February was marked as the release month of Mighty No. 9, only to get delayed once again. Unfortunately for fans and Kickstarter backers, it seems that the game is somewhat scared to see the light of day. Unsurprisingly so, given the fact that better games have already released on Steam, for instance, Megabyte Punch and Shovel Knight.

The latter has already received countless awards at various game shows, being one of the best old-school indie titles out there. Featuring gameplay somewhat similar to Mega man, with the player getting abilities from each defeated boss, and an incredible soundtrack, Shovel Knight is available on basically every game console on the market.

In regards to Mighty No. 9, the hype surrounding it has slowly died out, with most gamers even forgetting about it. But that does not mean these constant delays should be ignored, given the fact that this project was crowdfunded through Kickstarter. True, delays could hint that the final product will be as polished as possible, but as long as the developer made the campaign with a date in mind, they should at least try to stick to that release date as much as possible.

If Mighty No. 9 would have been funded through other ways, the criticisms aimed at it would have been somewhat lowered in number. But due to the fact that its entire development was funded by gamers, with over $3 million dollars raised in one month, the news that Mighty No. 9 gets delayed once again could make a majority of the Kickstarter userbase stray even more from the crowdfunding platform.

Mighty No. 9 is now scheduled for a late-spring 2016 release. Let’s just hope that the final game will be worth the wait.
