Pizza Hut announced that it is working on a platform to enable Facebook and Twitter users to order pizzas via their direct messages. The restaurant chain made the announcement Tuesday on their official website.
The new service would be up and running at some point in August, according to the site.
Reportedly the pizza maker partnered with a startup that designs chatbots, Conversable, for the endeavor. The new platform will allow social media users to order, save orders, and reorder through their social media messages.
Still, there is the requirement to register for a Pizza Hut account to place an order, and the service will be free of charge. Chatbots will also display a FAQ page and pages with the company’s latest offers.
Wingstop and the organic food giant Whole Foods Market have also teamed up with the startup. So, there needs to be a customer base for this type of service.
Pizza Hut’s move may be an effort to gain an edge against its rivals including Domino’s Pizza, which in 2015 launched a pizza delivery system via emojis. Domino’s is also testing a fleet of mini-robots that can bring the delicious pie to customers’ doorsteps in Australia and a pizza order button.
Plus, Domino’s rolled out an app that needs no clicks to place an order. It is as simple as opening the app to get the delicious food to your home. So it is basically easier to get a pizza to your doorstep than texting back your significant other.
Baron Concors of the Pizza Hut explained why the company plans to roll out the new feature on the restaurant chain’s blog. Concors mentions simplifying ordering experience and getting information quicker among the reasons. The new move is also about convenience and meeting customers in channels where they spend most of their time.
The new service also served the company’s goal of becoming the most customer-centered pizza restaurant “with an emphasis [on] the simplification and personalization.”
So, who will benefit from the new feature except Internet users too lazy to access the company’s website? Well, there are people who order the same thing countless of times. And there are other souls that dread speaking to a human operator or listening to hold music on an empty stomach.
