If PS4 becomes backwards compatible, the console will basically destroy its competitors in one fell swoop.
It’s not entirely surprising to see how Xbox continues to demolish PS Plus’ free games line-up in terms of quality and available games, given the fact that this has been the case for almost the entire year of 2015.
The free games offered by PS Plus for its subscribers have been almost 90% indie games, without any large heavy-hitting AAA game. True, Dragon Age Origins and other large titles have been released for PS3, but PS4 has remained more or less an indie game machine if one would simply play the games offered fro free. The same goes for Vita as well, but that is not entirely surprising, given the fact that the handheld console is more or less dead in Western markets, even though in the Eastern ones it has a massive popularity, especially in Japan.
For PS Plus subscribers, February brings the coop arcade top-down shoot-’em-up Helldivers with cross-buy, being available for PS4 and PS Vita accordingly. The same goes for Nom Nom Galaxy, an indie 2D platformer. PS3 users will be able to enjoy the Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, which basically takes the title of one of the best free games offered in recent memory. But the problem is that it is only available for PS3, leaving PS4 and Vita craving for an enticing game.
Grid Autosport for the PS3, a rather enjoyable racing game, Nova 111, an interesting take on turn-based rogue-like games and Lemming Touch end the list of free games for PS Plus. Unfortunately, according to a majority of gamers, this list is somewhat unexciting, with most of them stating that they will no longer renew their subscription in the following months, even if this claim has been uttered time and time again to no avail.
Xbox Games for Gold, on the other hand, brings Gear of War 2, an insanely popular 3rd person shooter, even though it is rather old. Rogue-like card game mixed with Batman Arkham-styled 3rd person combat Hand of Fate will also come at no additional cost. The Thief-inspired stealth action game Styx: Master of Shadows and the Sacred Citadel game finish the list.
Another main reason why Xbox continues to demolish PS Plus’ free games line-up time and time again is basically the fact that Xbox One is backwards compatible with 360 for some games. If that would be the case for PS4 and PS3, the matter would be somewhat reversed, because PlayStation offers 6 games on a monthly basis while Xbox usually offers around 4.
