Xbox One New Preview Build Goes Online Today

If you are a Xbox Preview Member, get ready to test out the new software build starting today, January 20th at 6 PM.

Those that have signed up to test the gaming console’s new software updates will be able to enjoy some new services and features starting tonight at 6 PM because the Xbox One new preview build goes online today. This launch hour was released by Mike Ybarra earlier this Wednesday morning on Twitter.

One of the more requested features will finally be available, after being teased for a while up to this point. If one of your friends is in a party, you will now be able to check up on them and see who they’re gaming with, just in case you wanted to avoid a certain person without having to actually join in.

The newly update Gamerscore Leaderboard will also surface tonight. Gamers will be able to see how they rank up among their friends alongside statistics showing their biggest gamerscore gains over a 30-day period. The leaderboard itself will be updated constantly in order to provide the most accurate representation of your achievement list and gamerscore.

In order to provide users with a higher degree of customization, Xbox One will now allow users to rearrange pins on their home dashboard while being online or offline. This way, you can put whatever you enjoy playing on the first screen that pops up when you boot your Xbox and launch them even if you are offline.

Your game list can also be cleaned up, with the new preview build giving users the ability to hide games, trials, and apps that might have cluttered your ready-to-install list. This comes in tow with an upgraded Activity Feed screen that will show users new items and posts at the simple click of a button.

Unfortunately, the ability to play music in the background is still not included in this new patch. This service has been available on the previous iteration of the gaming console, but Xbox One was completely devoid of it, making some users criticize Microsoft extensively. Phil Spencer, the head of Microsoft’s Xbox division, has stated that this service will be available this summer of 2016, somewhat quelling the fear that the idea of playing music while gaming is nothing more than a dream.

On the other hand, Playstation 4 has allowed users to do just that for a while up to this point through the use of the Playstation Music App. True, Xbox One has a similar service as well, named Groove Music, but you are required to snap the application to the side of the screen, space previously occupied by the game itself, in order to listen to music.

Even so, the fact that the Xbox One new preview build goes online today still makes Xbox Preview Members eager to test how the new activity feed and Gamerscore Leaderboards actually fare in normal gaming conditions.
