Recent research has shown that type 2 diabetes can be prevented as long as people stick to a healthy diet especially consisting of healthy fats found in vegetable oils, seeds, and nuts.
Also, people should reduce the refined carbohydrates and animal fats from red meat which are usually saturated. Fish meat is regarded as rich in healthy fats and other nutritious vitamins.
A team of scientists conducted a study to establish what are the benefits of an excellent diet regarding insulin and blood sugar levels.
According to Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian, lead researcher and the dean of the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University in Boston, diabetes has experienced a staggering increase over the last ten years, and one of the leading causes originates from unhealthy diets.
More than a half of all diseases are caused by bad food, so it is imperative for people around the world to begin eating healthy. Type 1 and type 2 diabetes can be prevented and even treated if patients adopt an excellent diet rich in healthy fats from vegetable oils, fish, flaxseed, soybeans, sunflower seeds, and walnuts.
These foods can successfully replace animal fats, starches, and refined grains as well. Type 1 diabetes develops when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin, whereas type 2 diabetes occurs when the body becomes resistant to insulin despite the fact that the pancreas produces enough of it.
The team gathered information from 4,660 adults that participated in 102 trials which determined the connection between type 2 diabetes risk factors, carbohydrates, and saturated fats.
At the end of the study, after people had replaced saturated fats and carbohydrates with polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats, scientists discovered that those dietary changes improved the health status including insulin production and sensitivity, as well as insulin and blood sugar levels.
According to Fumiaki Imamura, first author of the study from the Medical Research Council Epidemiology Unit at the University of Cambridge in England, polyunsaturated fats brought the highest benefits to the metabolic health.
This research will become a valuable asset for patients and doctors who will be better informed now about the risks of type 2 diabetes and how to prevent or treat this health disorder by just adapting to a healthy dietary change rich in healthy fats and low in red meat and carbohydrates.
