With Valentine’s Day steadily inching closer and closer, the critically acclaimed co-op game Lovers In A Dangerous Spacetime will bring some love to PS4. The game is probably the best co-op game to have ever been released, according to game critics, but if you’re not careful, it can even end some relationships depending on how well you work together as a couple.
You and your loved one are put in charge of a ship shaped like a ball in a 2D environment with some rather stunning psychedelic graphics. Both of you are tasked to control the ship and fight off enemies while attempting to get you heart-shaped core in order to enter hyperspace and move on to a different level. Along the way, you will save bunny scientists that will give you passive and active upgrades to your ship, making your pink-ball vessel become a veritable machine of death and love.
The main gimmick of the game is based on the idea that every system of the ship, engines, weapons, shields and superweapons, can only be controlled by one person at a time. For instance, you might be manning the engines, controlling the ship’s movement and speed while your partner mans the cannons and kills enemies along the way. Of course, if you do not correlate your actions to one another, you will die.
The game does have a single-player mode, with the other pilot being portrayed by a dog that can receive orders, but the game is seriously made to be played in coop. But as stated before, both of you will have to show team play and understand each other’s orders if you hope to get past the first three levels.
Lovers In A Dangerous Spacetime has some crafting elements as well. Your ship’s systems can be upgraded by using various combinations of several elements. For instance, you can make your cannons shoot faster and have a wider spread by sacrificing damage while your shields can become massive damage-chuggers but have a slow movement rate. Shield movements are important because they only protect a small part of your ship, forcing you to move them time and time again in order to block incoming projectiles.
Bearing in mind that Lovers In A Dangerous Spacetime will bring some love to PS4, being released on the 9th of February for $14,99 on the PSN Store, you and your loved one will have to pit your strength against the awful alien forces of Anti-love. But try to remember that it’s just and a game before shouting at your partner that they suck at controlling the ship or aiming the cannons.
