A 15-year old boy died after being shot in the head on Sunday, the 17th of May. According to police reports, the shooting occurred at 2.30 a.m., when the boy and one of his friends went over to another friend’s house on Alderson Avenue and tried to wake him up by throwing pebbles at his window. The sleeping boy became scared so he grabbed a gun that was in his room and started shooting through his bedroom window. One of the bullets hit the teenager right in the head, which led to his death shortly afterwards.
Mackeon Schulte, the teenager who was shot, was taken to the hospital but the damage to his head was too severe to give him a chance to survive. He died soon after he got to the medical unit. Luckily, his companion was not hurt during the shooting.
The police are investigating the shooting but no arrests have been made in connection to Mackeon Schulte’s death. Neither the name of the boy who accompanied him nor the identity of the boy who killed him has been released to the press, given the fact that they are both juveniles.
Captain John Bedford of Billings Police Department gave an account of the events that led to Schulte’s death on Sunday morning, concluding that “it’s a tragedy all around.”
The investigators are meeting with representatives of the county attorney’s office to make a decision regarding the future actions that should be taken. The dead teenager’s family is also scheduled to meet with them before they are able to decide if they are to file any charges.
However, the preliminary investigations indicate that Schulte’s death was an accident but it is not clear at this point if someone is going to be held responsible.
Mackeon Schulte was a sophomore student at Senior High. According to Superintendent Terry Bouck, there are counselors on campus that members of the staff and students could talk to. He also expressed his sorrow and regret for such an unfortunate situation and stated that the school is prepared to offer support for as long as it is needed.
