The fight against cancer continues in the United States as the Relay For Life Twinsburg/ Nordonia is going to gather many participants.
Cancer is a devastating disease against which you should not be alone. Therefore, these events aim to encourage people to connect with one another and to share their feelings and their stories. Plus, all residents are invited to this year’s Relay.
The event will be at Tiger Stadium June 24th and 25th, starting at 6 p.m. There will be 18 hours of recreational activities, inspirational speeches, and fundraising.
After nobody had offered to organize this year’s Relay, some teenagers decided to step in and devote themselves to accomplish this mission. Gabbi Santacesaria, 16, Anne Mattoni, 15, and twin sisters Elana Felber and Zoe Felber, 16, of Twinsburg are the co-chairs of the 2016 Relay for Life.
At least one of their parents co-chaired this event before them for over 15 years, so it is already like a family tradition and heritage for the young girls to continue organizing it. Six months were needed to get everything prepared so that the overnight Relay would be perfect.
Last year the teams raised $20,000, so this year’s goal is $3,000 higher. Until now, they collected around $10,000. The total sum will go to the American Cancer Society to support the research for a new treatment and to provide medical assistance for cancer patients.
Furthermore, the teenagers organized the Twinsburg High School Relay For Life Club as well. This year, 16 registered teams will participate in the overnight event. There will be many activities if you are not a fan of walking on the track.
A local band, the Dolly Hoppers, and a DJ will take care of the music. Plus, organizers have prepared many exciting games, such as human Tic Tac Toe, a cupcake-eating contest, crab soccer, and Twister. In addition to this, the next morning, Zumba and a frozen T-shirt contest will open the day after breakfast.
Participants will receive a frozen T-shirt and whoever thaws it first and gets it on, wins the contest. During the Relay, there will be a Survivor’s Lap to celebrate the people who won the battle with cancer and the ones who are still fighting with it.
Like every Relay For Life, a luminaria ceremony will be held at the sunset to celebrate survivors, encourage cancer fighters and remember the ones who passed away.
