Barrington authorities have reported that two elderly women living in a house just outside Rhode Island were found dead. The investigation reveals that one of tripped on a rug and landed on the garage’s floor, while the other must have slipped while walking on the driveway. No autopsy reported has been issued, but the law enforcement officers believe that the two elderly women froze to death.
On Saturday morning, the Barrington authorities retrieved the bodies of Jean Haley and Marth Williams, two nonagenarian sisters living in a house near Rhode Island. The bodies have been discovered by a neighbor who went to visit them.
Police officials do not believe that foul play is involved, as nothing was missing from home. According to the investigators, the two elderly women were returning home after visiting their younger sister, an 89-year-old woman, who lives a couple of miles away.
The investigation revealed that the two elderly women just returned home and were heading towards the front door. Jean Haley managed to reach the garage, while Martha Williams remained behind to lock the car.
After going up a few stairs to access the door leading to the house, Jean Haley tripped over a loose carpet, lost her balance, fell the stairs, and landed on the garage’s floor. Subsequently, her sister must have slipped on the wet asphalt covering the driveway while walking to the car.
It’s highly improbable to find out which one of them fell first or if one of the women fell while trying to help the other one. As the temperature dipped below zero, the night grew colder. Unfortunately, due to their venerable ages, the two elderly sisters were unable to get out of the cold.
A neighbor passing by their house in the morning went to pay them a visit. However, after peeking through the garage’s window, the man realized that something has gone terribly wrong. It wasn’t long before he discovered Haley lying in the garage and Williams in the driveway.
The man immediately alerted the authorities. An ambulance arrived to take the two elderly sisters to a Rhode Island Hospital. However, due to the fact that they’ve spent the whole night in the cold, the doctors were unable to resuscitate them.
The sister’s bodies were sent to the coroner’s office for an autopsy, but the authorities believe that they’ve died due to hypothermia. No foul play is suspected since nothing was missing from the women’s house.
