The freshly redesigned Volvo XC90 will be the SUV to look forward to in 2016, according to reviewers all over the world who are raving about the new car and its improved design. The new model which will be manufactured in Sweden will be targeted to North Americans as well as Europeans.
Volvo plans on destroying all competition in the SUV department with its new XC90. The first version of the XC came out in 2002 and became the best-selling car in its class across Europe, so their wish is to achieve the same goal in North-America.
Because Volvo plans on marketing the new XC90 both in Europe as well as in the US, they have designed two versions of this model. The XC90 T8 Twin Engine and the XC90 T6. The diesel model will be marketed to Europeans and will not be sold in North America.
The T8 version of the Volvo SUV plans to be the first full seven-seat plug-in hybrid and will feature the highly expected Volvo Drive-E powertrain technology.
In the world of aggressive SUVs, it seems that Volvo is playing by different rules with its Drive-E technology, which only has one engine platform with a 2 liter-four cylinder, but thanks to this technology, Volvo can add electrification as a way of powering the car.
The new engine is also 143 pounds lighter than its older model and will bring more flexibility to the new Volvo SUV. The Drive-E platform will also be supported by a supercharger and a turbochargers.
Thanks to the supercharger, the engine will handle better slow engine speeds of 3,500 rotations per minute and it will allow the turbocharger to kick in with no shortage of power.
The XC90 T6 is quite bigger than the T8 and at 4,600 pounds you might think that it will be slow on the road, but that isn`t the case. The car is just as safe and as stable as Volvo has gotten us used to and maneuvering it on the street is an easy task, according to those who have tested it.
The price for the new T6 can go up as high as $54,500, but if you want the T8 Twin Engine you`ll have to be willing to pay a little more as it is still a prototype. The price for the T8 can go up to as high as $71,600.
The new XC90 SUV coming from Sweden is a true testament of what a car company can do to make a car desirable on two continents where the needs are quite different.
