Walmart announced that it will be increasing the number of US retail jobs by around 10,000 as the company decided to open new stores and to expand existing ones.
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is the company that owns Walmart. The multinational is a retail operation. It was founded in 1962. And is based in Bentonville, Arkansas. Wal-Mart operates through a chain of groceries, discount department stores, and hypermarkets.
Currently, it has over 11, 600 stores. These operate in 28 countries, at a global level. they are run under about 63 banners. One of its most famous ones is Walmart. This latter operates in Canada and the United States.
According to analysts, Wal-Mart usually announces its plan jobs at the beginning of the year. this year was no exception. Earlier this week, Wal-Mart announced its Walmart plans.
And they were mostly good ones. The company decided to expand its retail chain. As such, it will be adding an approximate 10,000 retail jobs on the United States market.
These will target both new and existing stores. Media reports state that Wal-Mart is quite consistent. It has had a similar rate throughout the years.
In 2017, the company is planning on opening 59 new location. These will be either completely new or relocated. The number also includes existing but expanded stores. The new locations will include both Walmart and Sam’s Club retail warehouses.
Walmart estimated that it will be adding around 10,000 retail jobs. But its building and renovations will also add construction jobs. The company declared that it is planning to generate some 24,000 such workplaces. Wal-Mart also announced that it will be expanding its e-commerce services.
Still, market reports do point out the following. Wal-Mart will be opening fewer stores in 2017. This was compared to previous years.
However, it is still adding workplaces. It is offering more jobs in the online grocery pickup segment. And it is also looking for new trainers. These will help the company’s new academies. This later is a program for its hourly workers. The remodeling will also add to the construction job numbers.
Its corporate headquarters might not be so lucky. Reports state that the company is planning on cutting among such workplaces. The cuts will potentially target hundreds or up to 1,000 jobs. And a decision and action on the matter will be taken by the end of the month. This is all according to media reports.
Early last year, Wal-Mart announced that it would be closing Walmart and other stores. 154 locations in the United States were targeted. In the summer of 2016, it also cut around 7,000 back-office jobs.
The cutbacks were a consequence of trimming back on expenses and costs. Wal-Mart is competing with Amazon. Over the past few years, the online has grown significantly. So now brick-and-mortar stores are trying to be more competitive.
Wal-Mart employs around 2.4 million workers, at a global level. Its Walmart and other U.S.-based stores include about 1.5 million people.
Amazon, its online competitor, also announced that it will be adding new jobs. Amazon.com announced this just last week. The company is planning to add 100,000 new, full-time jobs. Their plans will be carried out over the next 18 months.
The company also pointed out the increase in its U.S.-based workforce. Back in 2011, it had about 30,000 workers. By the next year and a half, it will have 180,000.
