Woma was sentenced for having faked cancer and mislleading health authorities. Police investigations have shown that a woman pretended to have cancer so she could get a late term abortion for free.
Chalice Renee Zeitner, a woman of 29 years old has been accused of pretending to have cancer so that she could receive government money to pay for the abortion she took while she was in an advanced pregnancy state.
Five years ago, in 2015, Zeitner went to her gynecologist and told her doctor that she was suffering from a form of cancer called Sarcoma which was in a very advanced stage.
She added that she was under treatment in Boston and she needed surgery in her spine and abdominal area for the tumors to be removed. At the time, Zeitner was pregnant and allegedly doctors advised her that it was safer to have an abortion as the pregnancy was threatening her life.
Since Zeitner belonged to the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System, she wasn’t going to spend money out of her pocket for the late term abortion, as it would have been covered by the state.
This type of situations, where the state pays for abortions is conditioned by the fact that the mother’s life has to be endangered by the pregnancy.
Zeitner brought her doctors paper proving that she had been diagnosed with sarcoma and she was undergoing treatment and medical experts went on and did the abortion at a hospital from Phoenix on the 10th of April, 2010.
After she had terminated her pregnancy, officials came across information that implied Zeitner used falsified medical papers to mislead doctors and the health insurance system that she had cancer.
Shortly after this, authorities got in contact with her doctor from Boston and they couldn’t believe what they were told. It appears that the doctor had no idea about the entire story the woman claimed to be living. He state dthat the woman had never been his patient moreover he had never met her in his entire life.
In that moment, officials realized that Zeitner had made up the entire story about her suffering from cancer so she could get an abortion for free.
After this, authorities have started a thorough investigation on the case and discovered that their suspicions were real and that Zeitner had indeed faked illness.
An arrest warrant was sent on her name on the 5th of May and three days later she was detained by the police. The woman was found living in Columbia, Georgia and was using a false name.
Zeitner has been accused of forgery, use of false identity and theft.
