Fecabook is changing its technology yet again and soon your Facebook News Feed will be your own little bubble of information.
The bright minds at Facebook are once again changing the way that it selects the information you get on a daily basis in your news feed. It used to gather information on what posts you like, comment on or share and base upon this data, select what the most relevant posts were for you.
But now it can actually get deeper into your mind. If before there was a barrier between what you were officially interested in and the entirety of things you spend time on and read. This barrier was constituted precisely on the likes, comments and shares you made.
But now, you will have nowhere to hide, as Facebook will be able to track how the exact posts you spend time on. They will track your scrolling and the posts you stop scrolling for and are therefore interested in.
They are going to use this information in order to render even more relevant posts in your news feed. That’s right, all of your guilty pleasures will be relayed on Facebook page.
And you should probably star asking yourself some serious questions if you take a look at your news feed one day and only find posts about diets, gossip and 50 shades of Grey.
And this is precisely why this change is so odd. One one hand, you will be revealed the exact proportion of your interests on a daily basis, which might be an extraordinary thing if you’re generally honest with yourself. It’s going to be like some sort of a mirror of the things you are interested in.
On the other hand, it actually has the potential to change what posts you will read in the future and what posts you will ignore, since you are aware of the significance it has to linger on a Facebook post now.
Furthermore, it is a rather dangerous change, because you will be essentially surrounded only by what you already like. And that is not exactly healthy or educational, as it has the capacity of relaying a distorted reality, that will look exactly how you want it to look, that will be filled with exactly what you want it to and nothing else.
It is very easy to lose the concept of the proportion that certain things have if you keep yourself heavily involved in a world that focuses on such a unilateral view on things. By being surrounded by the things that give you pleasure only, you are effectively distancing yourself from reality.
The healthy version would be to make sure you go in your News Feed settings menu and chose to see the most recent posts, rather than those that are most relevant to you, while this is still an option.
