One child was killed, and another one was critically injured in Atlanta, on Tuesday morning, after they were attacked by a pack of pit bulls in a bus stop. The authorities declared that another child was injured during the attacks, but his injuries were not life-threatening. The owner of the pit bulls was arrested, and one of the dogs was shot and killed by a law enforcement officer.
Logan Braatz and Syari Sanders were waiting for the school bus in an Atlanta station when they were viciously attacked by a pack of pit bulls. The attack was witnessed by several people living in the same area, who were awoken by the children’s screams.
Some of the eyewitnesses declared that they saw Sanders, the 5-year-old girl laying on the ground, and trying to fend off the dogs’ attacks by covering herself with her school bag and her jacket. The neighbors managed to chase off the dogs, long enough to reach the children.
One of the residents said that the girl lied there, in the street, with her face covered in blood. The man declared that by the time he reached the girl, the pit bulls already ripped her face and clothes. The attack rendered Sanders unconscious.
Unfortunately, that was not the end of the story. Shamonte Clayton, a man, living near the bus station, declared that he heard some blood-curling screams in the morning, and went outside to investigate. That’s when he was a mother screaming desperately for help, and some dogs trying to rip apart one of the children.
Using a firearm, Clayton managed to scare off some of the pit bulls and to reach a group of children who were hiding on the porch of an abandoned house. When the authorities arrived, the residents were still trying to fend off the wild pit bulls and to prevent them from attacking the other children.
One of the officers who responded to the call said that he managed to use a Taser to subdue one of the pit bulls who was circling the area. Clayton, who helped chase away the dogs said that he saw one of the children’s mothers holding her child’s lifeless body, not knowing what to do.
An animal control crew managed to capture the pit bulls, which were euthanized later that day. Cameron Tucker, the dogs’ owner, was taken into custody and charged with reckless conduct.
The children who were injured during the attack were rushed to the hospital. Braatz was taken to the Grady Hospital Trauma Center, while Sanders was taken to the Egleston Hospital for emergency surgery.
Unfortunately, Braatz passed away due to his injuries, but the surgeons managed to treat and stabilize the little girl.
