Ramsey County authorities declared that Diamond Reynolds, a 27-year-old woman, has been charged with third- and second-degree assault after repeatedly hitting another woman in the head with the hammer. Reynolds was also the individual who live-streamed her boyfriend’s death back in July 2016. The authorities did not release any information regarding the condition of Reynolds’ victim.
On Tuesday, the St. Paul law enforcement officers took 27-year-old Diamond Reynolds into custody, after a woman dialed 911 and told the operator that Reynolds attacked another person with a hammer after an argument.
According to the officers who took the woman into custody, the conflict involved three other women, one of which was the victim. An eyewitness told the police that Reynolds got into an argument with the group and, after a couple of minutes, struck one of the women in the head using a hammer.
Furthermore, it appears that after knocking the woman to the ground, Diamond Reynolds jumped on her and continued to strike her with the hammer. The woman was rushed to the hospital to receive medical care, and Reynolds was taken into custody.
A Ramsey County judge set Reynolds’ bail at $90,000. The woman is scheduled to appear before the court on Monday, where she will have to answer for two counts of assault.
It also appears that this isn’t the first time Diamond Reynolds has had a clash with the law. Upon reviewing her file, the magistrates have discovered that Reynolds’ name is related to an incident which took place on the 6th of July 2016 at a traffic stop in the suburban part of St. Paul.
Philando Castile, a 32-year-old citizen of St-Paul and Reynolds’ fiancé, was stopped by a traffic monitoring officer for a petty traffic offense. During Castile’s conversation with the police officer, the man became violent and attacked the officer.
In reply, the traffic monitoring officer drew out his gun and shot Castile. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the magistrates, Diamond Reynolds live-streamed the whole incident, including the moment when her fiancé was gunned down.
The police officer involved in the shooting was removed from the force, and a manslaughter charge was later added to this case. As for Diamond Reynolds, the judges have charged her with second- and third-degree assault.
At this point, it’s not clear whether Reynolds hired an attorney or not.
