It seems that on Friday, a 27-year old unnamed filed a complaint in Paris, France, claiming that famous French director Luc Besson (59) put something in her tea and left her unconscious. Then, according to the complaint, the filmmaker touched and raped her at the Bristol hotel in the French capital. Currently, the Paris authorities are investigating this clam, which Besson strongly denied. According to Besson’s lawyer, Thierry Marembert, called the accusations “fantasist” and said that even if the accuser is someone that the filmmaker knows, he never behaved inappropriately towards her.
It’s interesting that this claim emerged right after female filmmakers marched against discrimination at the Cannes Film Festival in the South of France. They also talked about representation and parity in the movie industry. Actually, on Saturday night, during the Cannes’ closing ceremony, actress Asia Argento revealed that disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein raped her at this very festival, back in 1997. In her moving speech, she revealed that there are still people who need to pay for their behavior to women. Moreover, that they are sitting right among them. This is something that the movie industry should not have to deal with. Actually, that no industry should have to deal with.
Woman accuses Luc Besson of rape
The actress warned that they know who these people are. Also, that they are not going to get away with what they’ve done. As for Luc Besson, he is one of the most famous French filmmakers in history. He had written, directed and produced over 100 movies. These include the Liam Nesson-centered Taken series, Leon, The Fifth Element, and more recently, Valerian. The latter was a huge box-office disappointment. His next movie is called Anna, and it stars Helen Mirren, Luke Evans and Cillian Murphy, among others. Now, everyone is waiting for the results of the authorities’ investigation into this matter.
