Ever thought about cool it could be to travel around the world without having to worry about luggage? Well, a Boston-based robotics company thought long and hard about the same thing and came up with a device so ingenious, that will make you change your mind about what it means to carry your baggage.
Family trips are pretty fun and relaxing, but there’s one thing that spoils everyone’s mood – having to haul that heavy luggage. However, a company from Boston might have a solution to your problem.
Introducing GITA and KILO, the world’s first intelligent luggage that is capable of following you around. GITA and KILO are equipped with the latest environment-mapping technologies, which means that they will always know where they are, and, most importantly where’s their master.
Although they are the first of their kind, GITA and KILO are quite sturdy, being able to carry approximately 100 kg worth of stuff. The two intelligent bags will follow you around the city, making sure that your possessions are safe and sound.
Piaggio, the father of GITA and KILO, explained how the two devices work. First of all, the owner must wear a special belt which contains hundreds of sensors and high-resolution camera. The camera helps the two intelligent devices see what’s in front of them.
In addition to the camera mounted on the not-so-stylish belt, the two robots are themselves outfitted with hundreds of sensors capable of establishing their exact location. So, when the belt’s user moves forward, the intelligent luggage will tag along for the ride.
Subsequently, if you stop to look at something or buy a cup of coffee, the luggage will stop as well. And no matter how fast you go, KILO and GITA will always be able to keep up with you. According to Piaggio, the intelligent luggage can achieve a top speed of 22 miles per hour, which is more than enough to ensure that they don’t get left behind.
In a press statement, the company said that the two bots could be further customized and outfitted with new gadgets like security sensors. Of course, this sounds great on paper, but what does this mean regarding price?
At the moment, the company has just two working prototypes, but they are thinking about starting mass production. Of course, don’t expect it to be cheap, considering the technology this bot is based on.
