Google has patented a new high-tech device that would look like a toy, but that would have the ability to control all the Cloud-based gizmos in your house. And if this sounds familiar, it is most likely not from some tech magazine, but from a horror film.
Google’s toy will be the Robocop of toys, because it will have a microphone in its mouth, speakers in its ears, cameras in its eyes and a special mechanism in its neck that will enable it to turn its head. And if you are wondering why, then here comes the best part!
By establishing some words or phrases of your choosing, the Google toy will be able to localize you when you say them, turn its head in your direction and look at you with its camera eyes.
Despite the fact that it would be a kind of universal remote for your house, it will have this ability to look you in the eye when you talk to it.
“The anthropomorphic device may be a doll or a toy that resembles a human, an animal, a mythical creature or an inanimate object” stated the patent.
In the drawings included in the patent, a teddy bear and a bunny rabbit were depicted, among others. So picture the adorable Google bear and its shiny fur or the fluffy bunny that will be able to listen to you and offer you a loving gaze as feedback.
So there is going to be quite the collection of Google toys and there is bound to be a Halloween version, guaranteed to offer an experience that no haunted house ever could.
Aside from the inevitable moments of confusion, that are bound to startle you in the beginning, a cute furry universal remote that obeys all of your commands sounds pretty good.
Unfortunately, the purchase of this patent does not guarantee that the Google toy will ever make it to a store near you, since there is no assurance that this patent will ever become an actual product prospect for the Internet company.
However, if they do decide to make the Google toy real, they are bound to compete to a certain extent with the upcoming Barbie doll that will have the ability of talking back to the person talking to it and it will actually remember what the person said, in terms of likes and dislikes.
But the Google toy will be able to offer an authentic gaze, aside from controlling all the gizmos in your house. Barbie needs to go a long way until she can catch up with this.
It remains to be seen if Google will ever make its amazing universal remote that will know where you are, but if it does, it has all the chances to become a success among children and adults alike.
