After presenting the case of the New Jersey babysitter who donated part of her to an 18-month-old girl, we are proud to tell about another act of selflessness. A 21-year-old old mother managed to save her daughter from a house fire at the expense of her own life. The event which occurred in Wyoming delivered a strong and clear message: Nothing is more precious than our children, and that some of us would do anything, even sacrificing ourselves, in order to ensure their safety and wellbeing.
21-year-old Shelby Carter is considered by many a hero mom after she managed to save her daughter from the fire that consumed their home. According to the paramedics and firefighters who arrived at the scene, thanks to Carter’s quick-thinking, the 10-day-old infant was saved from the flames.
As soon as Mrs. Carter saw the flames thickening, she strapped 10-day-old Keana in her baby stroller and dropped her from the window of her two-story house. The stroller absorbed the shock of the fall, and the firefighters managed to rescue Keana.
After making sure the baby is unharmed, the firefighters tried to reach Carter, who was stuck on the second floor of the building. Unfortunately, the flames were too thick, making impossible for the firefighters to reach her in time.
Unfortunately, by the time the fire department reached her, the 21-year-old woman was already dead, probably suffocated by the smoke which filled the entire room. As for little Keana, the paramedics said that she’s out of harm’s way.
Shelby Carter of Wyoming was dubbed a hero mother by the state’s fire department, and the story of how she chose to put her daughter’s life ahead of her own was shared countless of times on most social media channels.
Furthermore, it would seem like Carter’s family received many messages from people who wanted to express their condolences and to ask them if they need money for Shelby’s funeral. Meanwhile, the community where Shelby and her daughter lived have called her a hero mom, commending her selfless gesture
Even the local Fire Department posted a heartfelt message on their Facebook account, saying that words are not enough to describe the event they’ve just witnessed. Shelby Carter will not only be remembered as the young woman who tried to become a pharmacy technician but as Wyoming’s hero mom who sacrificed her life to save Keane from certain death.
