The Hypatia Stone is the name that scientists have given to a certain yellowish stone that is scattered throughout the Sahara desert. Experts discovered it back in 1996 and later, they discovered that it was not quite earthly, but rather alien. The material that the stone is made up of is completely unknown to the science world. After analyzing the molecular composition of the stone, the researchers came to the conclusion that it may be older than our solar system. Back in 2013, they announced the extraterrestrial origin of this yellow stone based on analysis from a sample found in the Libyan Desert Glass Field.
The name of it comes from the ancient astronomer called Hypatia of Alexandria. In-depth analysis by the researchers from the University of Johannesburg concluded that the stone didn’t contain silica. This is what makes the Hypatia stone such an unusual one. According to Jan Kramers, the leader of the research, the composition of this stone is a peculiar one. Usually, the Earth or any other meteor has a larger amount of silicon with a lower amount of carbon. The Hypatia stone contains the exact opposite.
The mysterious Hypatia stone
However, maybe the strangest feature of this mysterious stone is another one. It contains a variety of metallic aluminum which, in our solar system, does not really exist. Moreover, it also has some very rare compounds like silver iodine phosphide. This has nickel and phosphorus along with iron and moissanite grains.
All of this proves that the Hypatia stone existed long before the formation of our solar system. To discover its origin is going to be extremely difficult, if not impossible. The researchers need to study it in comparison with very interstellar object available. By now, they know that it comes from a place where there are very cold temperatures. So, the experts are starting from beyond Kuiper Belt.
