On the subject of ‘strange things some people do to raise awareness,’ recently a 31-years old engineer and beekeeper from Egypt have displayed in the beard of bees in the hope of raising awareness among Egyptian on the importance of bees.
Mohamed Hagras is a 31-years old engineer from Shibin El Kom, Egypt. For some time know, the intrepid man gave up his daily job in the hopes of education people about the importance of bees. To this end, the man participated in countless competitions where he displayed his beard of bees.
Using the pheromones extracted from a dying bee queen, the man created a device that can attract countless of bees. The device is mounted on the man’s chin. After putting on the curious contractions, countless of bees come buzzing in, and rests on the man’s face.
The representation can no doubt pass as a prime performance for a circus repertoire, but the man doesn’t perform these stunts just for his public’s amusement. In fact, according to Hagras’s statements, this quaint performance was devised to show people that bees are not aggressive and that they seldom attack without provocation.
Hagras has been giving these representations for some time now, and, so far, it would seem that he managed to prove his point. During one of his appearance, the beekeeper was asked about how he managed to perform the outstanding stunt.
Hagras declared using a specific technique, he’s able to extract pheromones from the gland on a dying bee queen. Using this secretion, the beekeeper ‘commands’ the bees to stay on his chin, thus forming the beard of bees.
Furthermore, Hagras said he frequently uses this technique in order to create new hives. However eccentric Hagras seems to be, he did not manage to set a world record with his beard of bees. Currently, the world’s record is held by a Chinese citizen, who manages to cover his body, from head to toes, with approximately one million bees. Basically, the man had approximately 100 kilograms of bees on his body.
As for the ‘amateur’ Hagras, the man declared that the purpose of his strange appearances is to educate people on the importance of bees. The little flying creatures don’t only have a positive impact on the environment, but according to the latest research, their venom has curative properties.
