A man diagnosed with bipolar disorder fatally stabbed his stepmother on account of her gloating over the Dallas Cowboys’ victory. The incident took place in their apartment situated in South Austin, on Sunday evening. According to the man’s own testimony, he stopped taking his medication two years ago because they were ‘slowing him down.’
Pontrey O’Neal Jones, a 20-yeard old male from South Austin, fatally stabbed his mother on Sunday evening. When interviewed, the alleged murderer motivated his crime by saying that the woman was gloating about Dallas Cowboys’ victory.
O’Neal Jones victim was Magdalena Ruiz, his stepmother. The man suffering from bipolar disorder recently moved in with Ruiz, her husband, and their three children in the South Austin apartment. According to several friends of Ruiz, the recently deceased woman, her troubles began shortly after the man moved in with them.
When interview, O’Neal Jones declared that the woman disrespects his father on multiple occasions and that she was gloating when the Dallas Cowboys won the match against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.
O’Neal Jones told the investigators that he could no longer stand the woman’s behavior and that he devised a plan to silence her. The man suffering from bipolar disorder said he initially planned to snap his sister’s neck, but he realized that the plan was inefficient and turned his attention toward his stepmother.
The suspect said that before the game started, he took a knife with a black handle, and hid it under the couch. According to the timeline established by the police, at approximately 10:40 pm, O’Neal Jones took the knife from its hiding place and stabbed the woman several times.
After the man with bipolar disorder started to stab the woman, Jones’s father stepped in to stop the man from delivering another blow. O’Neal Jones fled the scene but was apprehended 10 minutes later by a police patrol.
The man was found naked near an intersection. Unfortunately, Ruiz’s injuries were much too severe and could not be saved. O’Neal Jones was taken into custody, and a magistrate set $500,000 bail bond. It’s unclear whether or not the man hired an attorney to represent him in court.
One of the court affidavits stated that when the authorities told the man that his stepmother died, he felt relieved. Moreover, the suspect declared that he stabbed the woman multiple times in case a single blow was inefficient.
