Infinite Fall announced that the much-anticipated Night in the Woods is scheduled to launch on the 21st of February. The game, who was initially slated to launch on the 10th of February, will be compatible with PS4 consoles, Macs, and machines running Linux or Microsoft’s Windows.
Night in Woods, the upcoming title developed and published by Infinite Fall, was entirely funded by a Kickstarter campaign. Naturally, the company’s fans and backers, are dying to see how the game turned out to be. But from the game’s PAX East 2016 gameplay trailer, we have to say that it looks quirky and amusing at the same time.
Night in the Woods tells the story of Mae, a 20-years-old cat, who decides to drop out of college and to seek her fortune back in her hometown. When she arrives in Possum Springs, her hometown, the ex-college cat realizes that things are not what they seem and much has changed since she left for college.
Mae will soon discover of a faceless threat that haunts the woods around the quiet city and will embark on a journey that will completely change her life.
Concerning the game’s genre, Night in the Woods is quite difficult to place. Technically speaking, it’s a 2D platformer with numerous elements belonging to the point-and-click adventure genre. Although the game’s design might hint that this is a children’s game (anthropomorphized animals with cute and friendly faces), Night in the Woods is the very definition of not safe for children.
The game tackles some of the most sensitives themes like belief in a higher power, the meaning of life, fear of the unknown, and what does society looks like the minute it takes off its featureless mask.
Sometimes the environment will seem friendly, well-mannered, and inviting, only to ensnare the player and to play with his mind. Make no mistake – Night in the Woods features a twisted and depraved world, buried beneath a thin layer of insanity.
On more than one occasion, the protagonist will be able to peer through that layer and to see the true face of the word. In some regards, Night in the Woods is not all different from other Indie publications such as The Cat Lady and Downfall, its sequel.
The finer details of Mae’s adventures remained yet unknown, but will soon be revealed when the game launches on the 21st of February.
