The law enforcement authorities from Philadelphia managed to capture the man involved in the terrible incident that took place on Christmas Eve. On the 24th of December, an 81-years old woman was found dead inside her shop after a man shot her 11 times in the chest. The authorities believe that the corner store shooter sought revenge when he shot the old woman from close range.
Maurice Green, a 31-years old man, involved and convicted in several drug-related cases, was apprehended by the Philadelphia authorities. The surveillance tapes from outside the corner store showed the suspect fleeing the scene after shooting Marie Buck, an elderly citizen, and the owner of the store.
After interviewing Green, the law enforcement officers learned that the suspect was driven by revenge when he committed the crime. The court’s documents reveal that Buck’s grandson knew Green well and that the two of them might have been involved in a robbery.
Furthermore, it would seem that the reason why Green entered the corner store was to exercise retribution on Buck’s grandson. The man allegedly stole a golden necklace from the suspect some time ago.
Believing that the woman’s grandson might be in the shop that day, Maurice Green entered it, in an attempt to confront the man and to make him return the stolen necklace. However, the man’s attempt to confront the woman’s grandson was hindered by Marie Buck’s presence in the store.
Instead of leaving the grocery store located at Titan and Sixth streets, Maurice Green drew out his gun and fired 11 shots in the woman’s chest. What’s, even more, baffling is the fact that the suspect made no attempts to talk to Marie Buck.
According to the suspect’s statements, Maurice Green entered the store, took one step, drew out his gun and shot the defenseless woman. The surveillance tapes caught Green fleeing the scene after the deed was done.
The woman was rushed to the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. As for the suspect, he was apprehended several hours later by the law enforcement authorities.
Marie Buck and Michael, her husband, opened the grocery corner store over 40 years ago. Everyone from that part of the city knew the woman and the corner store. Seth Williams, the District’s Attorney, said that the matters in the corner store shooter case are very clear and that they have enough evidence to convict Maurice Green.
