The hysterical woman is a myth; the laid back woman is a fact. A new study shows how good it actually feels to be a woman. Even if it seems hard to believe, it looks like women tend to be less stressed and worried about the way they look than men.
Women’s self-esteem has increased considerably if compared with data from the past. Despite the statistics showing that women present the tendency of putting on weight, they are happy with their bodies.
Researcher Bryan Karazsia (The College of Wooster) led a study which resulted in this outcome: women are pleased with their body image. He provides us with more details on the research:
“While women consistently report being more dissatisfied with their bodies than men as far as thinness is concerned, that dissatisfaction has decreased over the 31-year period we studied.”
The researchers analyzed previous studies, as well. They found this improvement on women about their body image, which now surpasses men’s expectations about their bodies. However, as far as men are were concerned, their interest in the matter remained the same.
The study involved 100,228 people and it lasted from 1981 to 2012. The participants contributed to the research by answering the surveys.
According to specialists, musculature is more important than body weight. They conducted a different study on muscle size, which involved data from 81 previous studies which has been gathered for fourteen years.
Given the fact that we live in an image-obsessed society, it is surprising how people’s opinion and studies suggest the contrary. Expert Bryan Karazsia is optimist about the situation:
“When we consider that human who is physically larger than they have ever been, one might expect that body dissatisfaction should be increasing. But we found the opposite. The last two decades have witnessed increasing attention and awareness on a body acceptance movement aimed primarily at girls and women.”
So it has been scientifically proved that women are more confident when it comes to their body image and their weight. The state of mind and the way you feel inside reflects on the outside – this is not a mystery to anyone. It is a good thing that girls and women are not affected by something as shallow as appearance. Their attitude is the right one: a healthy, balanced mentality brings a healthy way of life too.
