Carbon pricing will deal with fossil fuels.
It’s been years since many organizations and governments are trying to find the perfect solution to deal with carbon emissions.
These emissions are highly dangerous as they pollute the air. Furthermore, the industrial development has led to a high increase in carbon emissions over the last decade. Because of this, our world suffers.
Recent research has shown that carbon emissions affect climate change and cause a tremendous imbalance in the world’s ecosystem. According to the Atmospheric Sciences and Climate of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, the report on the anthropogenic warming of Earth proved that these emissions had a harmful effect, especially in the forests situated near industrial sites.
Furthermore, based on the statistics, more than $396 trillion will be spent to deal with climate change disasters that will occur in the future because of fossil fuels burning.
Worse, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change predicts that if climate change continues, the world’s economy will collapse. In other words, we need to switch to the use of clean energy as soon as possible.
Until then, scientists concluded that our best bet is carbon pricing. By using a revenue-neutral carbon tax, taxpayers and consumers will no longer have to pay for these emissions. Instead, the fossil fuel corporations which are responsible for this critical situation will be the ones that will get out money from their pockets.
It is highly unethical to ask the public to pay higher energy bills and taxes to deal with problems which were created by someone else in the first place. Unfortunately, the excess of fossil fuels has led not only to air pollution, but the ocean ecosystem was damaged as well.
For example, British Columbia economy has significantly improved after an eight-year revenue-neutral carbon tax was introduced. Thanks to this tax, over 2.8 million American citizens will have a job over the next 20 years, and the GDP will increase by $75 billion every year.
Furthermore, this initiative will not only deal with carbon emission, but it will also provide a 40-year career opportunity for local communities.
All in all, the world’s economy and climate change will thrive if this initiative will pay off. Carbon emissions have been damaging our world’s ecosystem for too long. Therefore, we need to double our efforts.
