Fashion claims yet another victim, as a 34-year-old woman has died after a cosmetic procedure that went terribly wrong. Kelly Mayhew went into respiratory arrest in the middle of a silicone injection treatment, conducted illegally in a Queens basement and died after being transported to the hospital.
Mayhew was a known fan of voluptuous behinds, according to her Facebook page, and so, she decided to have a but lift. She was accompanied by her mother to the shady treatment provider in Queens, after a common friends had allegedly put then into contact.
The treatment was carried out by an unlicensed woman, who gave Mayhew silicone injections in her buttocks. However, the improvised treatment went horribly wrong, as half-way through, Mayhew became unable to breathe.
At that point, her mother attempted to perform CPR on her and asked the woman to call 911. Instead of trying to help Mayhew, she ran away in a grey SUV, according to Mayhew’s mother’s statement.
When Kelly Mayhew was eventually transported to the emergency room, there was nothing that the doctors could do for her and she died. The exact cause of her death remains unknown at the moment. It will be revealed after the doctors will have performed an autopsy, in order to determine the circumstances that led to Mayhew’s death.
This was not the first time that she had made use of cosmetic procedures, as Mayhew had previously undergone another five cosmetic surgeries. There is a significant possibility that the collective effect of these procedures, that have been most likely done in shady conditions as well, has greatly contributed to the death of the woman.
This is not the first time when a person dies from botched cheap cosmetic procedures. Another person who has provided unauthorized buttock enhancement procedures is presently serving a life sentence in prison for her actions. These included injecting women with a wide variety of toxic chemicals, ranging from superglue to cement.
Since the woman who administered the fatal silicone treatment to Kelly Mayhew has fled from the scene without any kind of attempt to aid the victim after she had begun showing distress signs, it is expected that her sentence will be among the harshest. At the moment, the police are still looking for her.
According to the people who live near the basement where the illegal treatment took place, she is some king of nursing professional, but her precise occupation remains uncertain at the moment. Hopefully, with the help of Mayhew’s mother, the woman will be apprehended before she gets to administer other unauthorized cosmetic procedures.
Since personal appearance has become the core of modern society, such happenings are unavoidable at this point. Cosmetic procedures often seem like the most appealing option for many people out there who are trying to upgrade their appearance. However, the cost for these interventions is extremely high and so, cheaper alternative arise from unsafe places.
Ultimately, whether or not to submit one’s self to a medical procedure performed in visibly inappropriate conditions remains a personal decision, as there is great opportunity for such practices in these modern times. The police are trying to keep this problem at bay, but it is of the utmost importance that the demand for these illegal cosmetic procedures be lowered as much as possible.
